History
Sparrow Pumps originated from Martock, Somerset operating under William Sparrow Ltd as General & Agricultural engineers. The company was established in 1851 and became main contractor for the War Department and later became the largest MOD water engineering department in the South West. Today Sparrow operate from the headquarters of their parent Abbey Manor Group, Preston Road, Yeovil, where they have been since 1985.
J W R Newman & Co was established in 1837 and first made its name in undertaking smaller water engineering projects within the County of Dorset. Since then the company has been offering high quality water, heating, and electrical engineering services to the local farming communities and more recently has expanded into commercial and industrial markets. Their client base has expanded immensely due to the efficient, friendly, and reliable service that is offered by one of the largest water engineering companies in the Dorset area. The water services business was combined with Sparrow Pumps in 1997, and the heating business subsequently sold.
Martin & Boyland of Honiton, Devon first traded in 1957, offering a full engineering service to agricultural and domestic clients in Devon and Cornwall. These services included borehole water supply, water purification, farm effluent management and sewage treatment. The business was purchased by Sparrow Pumps in March 2000.
Sparrow is the company into which the above have been consolidated. It is a part of abs Wastewater Technology Limited, which is part of the Cardo Group. Sparrow was purchased by abs on the 16th September 2005.
